Yemen
is a country of diverse geographical landscapes. It has virtually
everything ranging from lofty mountains, peaceful golden sandy
beaches to lush green valleys. Although there are large reserves
of unexploited petroleum and precious stones yet most of the population
is largely dependent upon agriculture. Maize, wheat and barley
are all grown on an extensive scale. The land of Sheba as Yemen
is traditionally known is rich in culture. In some places one
cannot help thinking that time has frozen. In this fast moving
world of super sonic jets, space travel and internet it is astounding
to see how people dearly cling onto their cultural and traditional
values.
The country has a population of and an area of square kilometers.
The majority of the population is predominantly Muslim, although
in some remote areas whole villages of Jews can also be seen.
Aden, Mukalla and Hodeidah are the main sea ports. The historic
city of Aden serves as the gateway to the Red Sea.
Yemen is bordered by the sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia.
